The HAAN FOUNDATION FOR CHILDREN plans to build a research institute. The RESEARCH INSTITUTE will advance interdisciplinary scientific collaboration and research, combining neuroscience, computer science, neurophysics, environmental science, microbiology, biotechnology, education and chemistry. In this manner, we will help realize the possibilities of improvement and acceleration in the learning processes of the human mind.

All human beings are different; born with inherent strengths, weaknesses and differences. The goals of the Institute will be to (1) identify and eradicate the sources of neurological dysfunction of cognitive ability in the mind and (2) improve knowledge acquisition and, ultimately, increase thinking proficiency in the human mind.

The INSTITUTE will host three focus centers:

THE LEARNING CENTER

The LEARNING CENTER will be the first virtual entity established, and will be used as a functional model for the other centers. The CENTER will be responsible for completing the goals decreed in Phase II and advancing our immediate goal of reading fluency for all children. Questions about genetic or environmentally induced learning disabilities evoked by our experiences in the LEARNING CENTER will be channeled to our MIND SCIENCES and PHYSICAL SCIENCE CENTERS to resolve through research.

The LEARNING CENTER will also explore cutting-edge and evolutionary teaching methodologies through TEACH THE TEACHERS, to ensure that our children are taught in customized, age-appropriate formats. The LABORATORY SCHOOL will enable us to observe direct results in a controlled environment of "old" vs. "new" methods for teaching teachers, students, parents and the academic community at large. It will also include the development of educational software designed to expedite the reading acquisition process.

The LEARNING CENTER will serve as a hub for collaborative community efforts to establish a grass-roots unification movement to better children's educational experience. And finally, the LEARNING CENTER will focus on the inherent strengths of a child and look to serve enablers that will allow these strengths to grow and expand.

PHYSICAL SCIENCES CENTER

The PHYSICAL SCIENCES CENTER will be established to study and understand the basis of learning disorders that are biological or environmental in origin. Many substances new to the last century may have a significantly adverse effect on our youth as well as the increasing neurological diseases effecting the population as a whole. We must understand the consequences of "progress" and reverse those that harm our physical and mental development.

MIND SCIENCES CENTER

The MIND SCIENCES CENTER will be dedicated to research in the neuro and behavioral sciences. In addition, we will initiate the study of modern mental processes, to include, among other fields, the science of spirituality and the enhancements of its impact on the mind and body.

SUPPORT TEAMS

Six independently organized business teams will support the three centers. A brief overview of their support functions are as follows:

Education Team: identifies and supports stellar scholars, projects, clinics, research, teachers, schools and universities through fellowships, awards, grants and programs.

Sales, Marketing and Customer Service Team: develops distribution channels and provides customer information and support for products and services which are produced by the Institute -- educational products, education programs, scientific breakthroughs, information, public relations and partner programs.

Technology Team: will work with the researchers, teachers and scientists to bring educational programs and products to high technology capability both for the classroom and Internet education arena thus ensuring world-wide, interactive education. It will also serve the operating technological needs of the Centers and Teams.

Implementation Team: will have the global responsibility to unencumber scientists and researchers with the daunting task of delivering products and programs.

Fundraising Team: has the responsibility to secure the funding necessary to obtain the goals of the Centers and Teams.

Administrative Team: Will be responsible for all business matters germane to running the Foundation and Institute as well as overseeing all personnel, finance and legal requirements of all Teams and the Centers.

With "best of breed" professionals, we will function in an entrepreneurial manner, with proven planning, operating, and management techniques.

THE HAAN RESEARCH INSTITUTE is based on a virtual business model with each of the functional business units providing full support services for the research centers.
