The HAAN FOUNDATION
FOR CHILDREN
is the culmination of a three-year effort that has recently completed
Phase I, its initial Development Phase, and is entering Phase II, its
Execution Phase.
In Phase I, the founders successfully brought together scientists and
practitioners, funded neurological research, initiated corrective programs,
developed new tools, awarded scholarships and sponsorships, and established
credibility within the landscape of learning differences (LD).
In Phase II, the HAAN
FOUNDATION FOR
CHILDREN is dedicated
to finding answers and providing specific solutions to the numerous learning
differences that are plaguing our children. In this Phase, the HAAN
FOUNDATION FOR
CHILDREN will develop
a comprehensive initiative, POWER4Kids,
which will:
- Conduct a series of core clinical studies to evaluate the efficiency
and effectiveness of existing programs.
- Create a greater public awareness.
- Develop and distribute early identification assessments for reading
and learning problems.
- Develop a network of strategic partners and alliances to support these
goals and unify efforts to understand learning styles throughout the
country.
In Phase II, the HAAN
FOUNDATION FOR
CHILDREN will:
- Fund and manage a groundbreaking series of nationwide clinical research
projects and analyze a myriad of instructional approaches that claim
to increase reading fluency and correct learning disabilities.
- Identify highly effective and efficient instructional programs, selectively
award the SEAL OF ACHIEVEMENT to
those that meet result-driven criteria and publicize the results.
- License, market and distribute a clinically proven K-TEST
to 1 million children annually, evaluate the results and present parents
with a blueprint of their child's strengths/weaknesses, fostering an
early awareness of their child's risk for reading failure and LD.
- Build LEARN ONNET, a Web portal
that compiles and disseminates information on reading and LD, and offers
online testing, learning profiles, instructional solutions, community
support programs and student/teacher/parent training modules.
- Assemble leaders of the scientific, educational, government and corporate
communities to assist in global outreach, through a newly organized
GUILD.
- Endeavor to raise the largest amount of private funding ever dedicated
to improving the lives of children with learning challenges.
In Phase III, the HAAN
FOUNDATION FOR
CHILDREN addresses
the need for a single-focused research and learning institute of interdisciplinary
collaboration. This center will work as the dynamic nucleus of research
and practice, and will serve as a public information clearinghouse for
up-to-date knowledge and resources. In Phase III we will:
- Establish a RESEARCH INSTITUTE
that brings together scientists, educators, and researchers to create
a comprehensive understanding of how a child's mind works best and to
design programs that enhance various learning styles.
- Promote INTERDISCIPLINARY COLLABORATION
of chemistry, biology, psychology, psychiatry, genetics, environment,
intuition, spirituality, computer technology and neuroscience to analyze
human learning capability and neurological disorders.
- Create a LABORATORY SCHOOL to
examine learning practices, determine the most efficient methods of
teaching and establish MODEL CLINICS encouraging school-based regional
centers that offer "new learning" curricula.
- Introduce a Power4TEACHERS
program to help teachers recognize learning differences and to disseminate
advanced pedagogic methods, tools and techniques.
- Create NEW EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
using university-based teams to include child-friendly, interactive,
multi-modality computer programs.
- Provide a greater level of research and educational support through
the HAAN FELLOWS PROGRAM and TEACHING
SCHOLARS PROGRAM.
- Establish the COMPLETE CHILD PROGRAM
to enhance children's strengths and talents.
- Expand GREATER INTERNATIONAL DISTRIBUTION
through translation of educational and instructional programs to other
cultures.

in a child's academic career can be devastating, for the individual
and for society at large."
