The goal of the HAAN
FOUNDATION FOR
CHILDREN is
to give
hope to the millions of children who are struggling
with academic failure, and provide direction to parents, teachers
and schools on how to best ensure every child becomes a proficient learner
and has the opportunity to lead a rewarding and fulfilling life.
Immediate and Long-term Goals
The HAAN FOUNDATION
FOR CHILDREN
will accomplish and/or support the following goals:
- Systematic Assessment of All Children
All children should be tested for learning issues just as routinely
as they are for physical problems. A systematic approach, toward the
goal of assessing every child, is the vehicle which will identify areas
of weakness in a child's ability to learn the only opportunity
children may have to ensure schools provide them the proper instruction
so they may achieve academic success.
- Power4Kids
We will conduct powerful research in schools
across the country, analyzing and comparing instructional programs
to ensure
our children have access to effective learning tools that
enable them to improve their skills commensurate with their abilities
and level of commitment. This will also provide our nation with reliable
standards and benchmarks on what is "appropriate and acceptable" educational
progress for children with academic struggles.
Over time, all educational
products for children will be evaluated for their efficacy and, if
they pass rigorous and high standards of measurement, they will
be awarded
the Seal of Achievement.
- Common "Learning Profiles"
The HAAN FOUNDATION
FOR CHILDREN
will put forth a united effort so that parents, teachers, schools,
governments, and students will accept that there are differences in
the way people
learn, work to understand and identify those differences, and take
steps to ensure that appropriate academic programs are provided to
children
who are at risk for learning failure. Education can and will evolve
to discover, through powerful science,
what works best for which students and under which conditions. We will
work to attain this knowledge and ensure that practices and programs
are highlighted that are (1) scalable into schools across the country,
(2) are affordable for school budgets, and (3) have the highest
results that can be replicated and sustained systemically.
- "NewLearning-MindTree"
The HAAN FOUNDATION
FOR CHILDREN
will add a new dimension to the fields of assessment and learning,
beyond the current focus, towards a more active phase of research
and education that promotes the discovery of
various Learning Profiles and, consequently, designs and disseminates
multi-modality, interactive, assessment and custom instruction.
- POWER
4TEACHERs
Teaching is an art and the public has long-abandoned the artist. Many
teachers are not aware that the methods they are using are not effective.
For those that are, the process of trying to incorporate new methods
into their curriculum is an overwhelming task, at best. We need to
support
our teachers in their efforts to provide the best instructional methods
available. We must provide professional development to teacher in
effective practices and programs. It is mandatory that
we unify scientific research with educational practice in our schools
today.
Only through
interactive training including modeling of desired behaviors, opportunities
for teachers to practice methodology, and feedback about their performance
can we be assured that the benefits of scientific research will be
carried
effectively into the classroom. Teacher support is rewarded in many
ways and should be at the forefront of education and community involvement.
- Empower Learning Ability
Once learning accomplishment is a given for all children, the HAAN
FOUNDATION FOR
CHILDREN's ultimate goal will be to cultivate efforts that enhance the inherent areas of strength
and mental performance of children and adults.
